If a security issue requires a software update, you can update your system with the freebsd-update command instead of compiling the source manually.

Note: This is meant for binary installations of FreeBSD as mentioned in this book. Visit http://www.daemonology.net/freebsd-update for additional information on freebsd-update. It is prudent to back up your system before any update.

# freebsd-update fetch
# freebsd-update install
# reboot

After rebooting, display the release level using the following command:

# uname -r
